expedi[tion]

Brian and I took a day trip to Wilmington to see the city, since neither of us have been there before. It's about an hour from where we are staying on vacation, so it was an easy ride up the coast. Once we found parking, we made our way into the Cotton Exchange, which is an old cotton mill that's been converted into a mall.

We walked along the boardwalk to see this Coast Guard boat, as well as this really awesome motorcycle parked out beside it.

You can see the Battleship North Carolina in the distance.

A funny moment was when we saw this sign... "Charleston Sweetgrass Baskets". Unfortunately I was trying to be discreet, so I didn't get a very good picture!

Venus Flytrap sculpture by the waterfront
We of course did our architecture thing... couldn't resist. This theater was about the size of our living room!

We had lunch at Caffe Phoenix... I ate sweet potato & spinach ravioli with arugula and pinenuts.

There was a bookstore on Front Street that has 2 miles of bookshelves, and in the back they had painted this funny underwater scene around the floor drain...

Coffee shop that we enjoyed!

My other love, graffiti was also around town...

And a trip to Wilmington wouldn't be complete without a Dawson sighting!

Even stumbled upon the studio where Dawson's Creek and One Tree Hill were/are filmed.

Made our way back downtown to check out the brewery and came across this fence of keys. It was an impromptu art exhibit that anyone can take part in, it's been said that there are over 30,000 keys on the fence!

And at Front Street Brewery we tried oh maybe 4 of their 8 beers...

clearly, Brian is the better photographer!
Fun times. Made it home in time for the sunset and dinner at the Giggling Mackerel
