Porsche conven[tion] - Day 1

Surprise! We went to Savannah for a few days! Brian's dad "collects" Porsche's, I guess you could say. He has a '74 Carrera 911, and two 356's. We had been to an event with Charles & Veronica a few years ago in Hilton Head, and then this year they asked if we'd like to join them for the Porsche Parade in Savannah. The parade is an annual event that is put on by the Porsche Club of America, and it's location changes each year. I believe this is the first time it's ever been in Georgia! Next year's is in Salt Lake City.

I'm going to break this post down into 3 days, since our trip was 3 packed days long! Therefore, we'll start with Day 1, and you'll have to tune in tomorrow and the next for the rest of the trip! Considering that we took 532 photos in 3 days, there's no way I can cover it in 1 post!

You may notice that we are not in a Porsche... maybe next time?

We drove down on Sunday and stayed through today! They drove over in the 911, and actually enlisted the car in the Concours d’Elegance, which is a fancy way of saying 'car show', but in reality you have to spiff your car up to the best it can be and then it is judged based on all kinds of criteria, and then a winner is chosen. So it's a pretty big deal! When we arrived, we spent a little time cleaning the car for the aforementioned concours. We all chipped in...

Even I helped! Cleaning floormats one groove at a time...

Here we are, proud of our completed, sparkling car...

We then walked around the Concours Prep area, admiring all the other entrants. It was pretty amazing watching everyone detail their cars (most with Q-tips!). Thankfully, Charles is not this strict or insane. :) Although all Porsche's are beautiful (trust me, I have a new found appreciation), there are definitely some favorites. Check out these beauties...

And my personal favorite...

After taking in some that the convention had to offer, we went to check in to the hotel, which was on the riverfront downtown.

Charles & Veronica's room was next door
And we both overlooked this atrium space with the view of the river just outside!
A quick shot of our room.

We eventually took the ferry back to the Convention Center to go to the Pirelli Welcome Party. This started with a social, and then lead to a buffet of amazingly delicious German food, in honor of Porsche's homeland!

German fare... mmm!
Sunset as captured from the window in the photo above.

After dinner, we walked back through the Concours Prep area to admire the cars once again before catching the ferry back to the hotel in the rain.

These next 2 were a close 2nd on my wish list...

Have you had enough? Tune in tomorrow to see if Charles won his class! Thanks Charles & Veronica! We had such a great time!

Savannah Porsche Parade 2011 (Day 1)

  1. Looks like a nice Porsche filled trip. When are you going to let Brian buy a Porsche? I've already told my wife that is my dream car.

  2. Let HIM? When is he going to let me! I was picking out ones I liked left & right... he's the one that's timid!

  3. Brian needs a Porsche, soon. Unfortunately my wife won't let me have one until the kids are put through college.
