Keystone vaca[tion]

Wow. A week and a half since I promised you a post! I am so sorry. I'll make this one especially long, with lots of photos!

Well, I'm here, and I'm going to try to get better about this. I know I say that every time. Would you believe me if I said I'd actually written a post, and was too chicken to share it? It's true. Maybe someday I'll hit the publish button. Although it pertains to New Year's resolutions, so if I am going to publish it, I'd better do it pronto!

Anywho... back to Colorado! Last I left you, we were in Denver. It was a Wednesday afternoon, and our bags were packed. We sat at Phil's house anticipating the arrival of Ed & Sue, who were picking us up to drive us to Westminster to meet up with the rest of the family. Ed is Brian's mom's first cousin, and he and his wife live in Colorado. Since I had not met them before, it was a nice opportunity for us to catch up on the 30 or so minute ride. And it was a way for us to get from point A to point B!

The plan was to meet at Rock Bottom Brewery in Westminster because a family friend that Brian grew up with is the brewmaster there! When we arrived, all of the Sanders', Lucas', Chapman's, Baker's, and Nelsen's were all already there! The brewery tour was already in progress, but we jumped right in, and eventually drinks and lunch were also served.

This was our family dinner celebration for Brian's dad, Charles' 70th birthday! For which the entire trip was planned for!

William especially loved the brewery tour, since he's doing some home brewing himself!

Thanks to Greg and the rest of the Matthews' family for helping us celebrate!

Afterwards we piled into our rental cars and headed up the mountain to Keystone!

I thought the purple and orange sky was a sign of good things to come... When we arrived in Keystone, the Clemson/West Virginia Orange Bowl game was kicking off, and I scurried to the bar for the first half of the game, where I sat alone (well actually with my new friend Diane) at the bar, drowning my sorrows. At halftime, Brian came to take me to our condo, where I could watch the rest of the slaughter in solitude. For those of you who don't know, Clemson got beat. Bad. Real bad. Like history-making, record-setting bad. 70-33. I cried. A lot.

THURSDAY

As Charles said I as emerged from the bedroom on Thursday morning... "it's a NEW day!" And  it sure was! Me and my orange skis were off to hit the slopes!

Well, not really. Me and my orange skis were off to attempt to hit the slopes, but first I'd need ski school, and a lot of courage.  Luckily for me, my mother-in-law was in the same boat as me, while everyone else went off to impress the masses, Veronica and I went to ski school.

And while all 7 children in our family seemed to be pros by the end of the trip, this is what I looked like...

This is seriously the best photo we could get. One where I was actually vertical, and smiling. And on the safety of the little blue non-slip mat. Brian strategically cropped the kid whizzing past me out of the photo (thanks babe). Even though ski school was totally worth it, it truly confirmed that I am not a skier. And neither is Veronica!

And the best part of the day, was when Charles changed into this...

Oldie but Goodie!

Just kidding, the best part of the day was when we got the beer back out, and almost 20 of us piled in the hot tub together!

FRIDAY

By now, Veronica and I had returned our skis, and opted for observation over participation! Much better decision! We did manage to make it to the top of the mountain though...

The view is nice up here!

We had lunch at The Mountain House, and then we were off to watch the kiddos (and adults) ski!

Brian, Tora, & Charles
close to half of the crew!
Rosalyn & Uncle Brian

Kathryn & Fieldon
The Lucas'
Brian & Kat about to ski off down the mountain!
Rosalyn, William, & Fieldon
There was also an Ice Castle up there...

One more of Brian and I...

Everyone is pooped, time to head down the mountain...

For dinner, we met up with the Matthews's again at Wolf Rock Steakhouse.

SATURDAY
It snowed overnight! Here's the view from our condo (that's an ice skating rink)...

And here's the view looking towards our condo (we were the top floor of the green one).

Today, everyone kind of did there own thing. Charles & Brian met the Matthews' up at Arapahoe Basin for skiing in the morning, then back to Keystone for the afternoon. The Chapman's stayed at the bottom of the mountain to ski with the kids, the Lucas' went back to the top, and Matt & Jeremy were spread about.

Meanwhile, I headed out to explore the town for coffee, shopping, and pizza with Veronica, Heather, Gretchen, and her boys.

From there, Veronica and I walked to the spa. Yes, the SPA! We each had the best massages we've ever had, and then relaxed in our robes by the fire with mimosas. Heaven. And much better than a lift ticket!

The evening went much like the others with good food, drinking, and hot tubbing!

SUNDAY
Time to say farewell to our condo...

A few parting shots on our way out of town...

And we're back to the Denver Airport!

Thanks for joining us on our ski vacation!
