Feb Photo-A-Day Challenge - comple[tion]

Hallelujah! Don't get too excited though, there's more to come tomorrow morning. But for now, we'll be satisfied in the fact that I managed to make through 29 days of February photography, thanks to fatmumslim for the inspiration!

As a reminder, here was the list:

And although the collage below is in no particular order, I still think it looks pretty cool!

Probably easier to see it broken down by week...

my view, hands, words, button, a stranger, dinner, 10am

blue, self-portrait, makes you happy, heart, sun, front door, inside your closet

time, something new, something you hate to do, drink, a fave photo of you,
handwriting, phone

where you work, night, something you are listening to, something you ate,
your shoes, green, money, inside your bathroom cabinet

It's definitely fun to look back at the month! There are definitely a few favorites that I have, like "hands" and "drink"...

Do you have a favorite?

[something you're listening to]

February 29, 2012

Happy Leap Day! This is just the most recent album we've been playing. Since it was a childhood favorite, it was nice to listen to when my sister was in town this past weekend! My mom gave us all the albums from she & my dad's collection. I love listening to Joe Cocker, Emmy Lou Harris, Willie Nelson, and the list goes on.

Photo-A-Day participa[tion] - Day 28

[money]

February 28, 2012

Funny story to go with today's theme... and no, it's not funny that this is all the money I have in my purse. That would be $2.65. I had more, but I bought two more boxes of Girl Scout cookies. I love Girl Scout cookies. It's a real problem. And now I have $2.05 because I also love Coke.

Brian & I (and our team leader, Michael) went to a lunch meeting today, and as we were getting in the car to leave, Michael saw what-looked-to-be a bill fly by. We started to pull away, and passed the bill flying in the wind, to which Michael slams on the brakes, and Brian jumps out of the car to retrieve what turns out to be just a dollar. At that moment, I looked in my bag, and realized that 3 of the 4 dollars that I did have in the front pocket of my purse were missing. Thereby determining that the "found" dollar was really a lost dollar, and there are 2 more out there somewhere! Dangit! We drove back through the parking lot, to see if we could find the other 2, with no luck. I have no idea how they flew out of my purse, but Brian was at least nice enough to give the 1 back to me! Such a sweet husband.

And by the way, after our feature on Better After, we've had over 1700 page views (in the last 24 hours)! And so far, only positive comments! Woohoo... I don't think I could take much more negativity!

beautifica[tion] - OH MY!

It's happened again! I was reading through Google Reader and saw Beautifica[tion] as the post title for Better After, and I just knew it was us again! We are featured on Better After... two weeks in a row! Phew! I'm not sure I can handle all the traffic and comments! That last little whirlwind with the bedroom stencil really upset some folks, but hopefully everyone will like the transformation to the exterior! Thanks Lindsey for hosting us again!

If you are curious what all we did to the exterior, we replaced the vinyl siding with Hardie Board and of course painted the new siding and all the trim. We tore off the screened-in porch, and installed handrails. Restored all the windows, and took shutters off the windows that had them (as well as removed all window units because we installed central heating and air). We added rodent-proofing and new skirt-board along the base of the house, as well as beefed up the roof edge trim. We also did minor things like moving the house numbers such that they align, installed new lighting at the door and on the porch, hung a new mailbox and flag holder/flag.

The yard of course is a work in progress. We actually have big plans for it in 2012!

Photo-A-Day participa[tion] - Day 26

Back-dating again, due to slackness when company was in town. Sorry for the late post!

[night]

February 26, 2012

Since I didn't actually take a picture of night on Sunday the 26th, I decided to find a photo from another night in February. And these were too cool not to post. Army Wives was being filmed in our neighborhood, so we walked over to check it out. And although it was technically "night", I think they were trying to simulate "day"! Fun!

Here are a few more photos from the shoot...

Photo-A-Day participa[tion] - Day 25

[green]

Sorry y'all, but with my family in town, I didn't even think about blogging, or the photo challenge, or even playing Words With Friends! I promise to catch up on "inside your bathroom cabinet" and "night" later in the week, but for now, I did manage to get some "green" photos on Saturday (by chance), and they are terrible photos, due to my phone, but here they are regardless! Guess I should say green and red and white and black... a little Huevos Rancheros and a Bloody Mary!

Photo-A-Day participa[tion] - Day 23

[your shoes]

February 23, 2012

In honor of my niece Ellie's visit tomorrow, I'll share a little story about these shoes. I know they aren't fancy. But they are practical. And inexpensive. They are black, and flat, and comfortable. And I wear them just about EVERY day. Rain or shine, hot or cold. They are my go-to shoes. And before them, there was another pair of similar ones that I thought at one time, "how will I ever replace these", but alas, they wore out and had to be replaced, what with all the wearing they got. So these too will be replaced eventually, but if I had to guess, that future pair will also be flat, black, and comfortable (and inexpensive).

Which leads me to my story... I had bought these shoes maybe last summer? And my mom & sister both liked them as well (practical women in my family), so we all went on a little shopping trip to Stein Mart (I think), and they both bought the exact same shoes. For weeks apparently, long after I was back home in Charleston, every time Ellie saw one of them wearing their new shoes, she would point at their feet and say "Jen-Jen's shoes"... ha! Love that little one! Mysteriously though, these shoes never worked out for either of them, and in fact mine did wear out, probably because they are cheap. But wait! That meant that I had two more pair at my disposal, for free no less! So in fact, I am not wearing Jen-Jen's shoes, but rather her sister's. Thanks Allison! Can't wait to see y'all this weekend!

Photo-A-Day participa[tion] - Day 22

[where you work]

February 22, 2012
I really wanted to get a photo from the other side, with the Intracoastal Waterway, and the drawbridge, and just about anything else that would distract from the building, but I never made it to that side of the river today! So here we are, from the parking lot. Our beautiful office building!

OH MY GOSH!!!

BREAKING NEWS: We are featured on Better After today! What a surprise, I was looking through my Google Reader, reading my blogs, and lo' and behold THERE WAS OUR BEDROOM!!! Thanks so much, Lindsey!!

Update: yesterday I had less than 20 views, and today well over 300 400! Man, oh man!

[a fave photo of you]

February 21, 2012

This is definitely one of my favorite photos of Brian, and I guess me too, since half my face is covered! Anyway, thought this one was appropriate for the Photo Challenge, since it just so happens that it's FAT TUESDAY!!!

Happy Mardi Gras, y'all!

Blog Hop participa[tion]

Today I'm participating in the...

The Things We Find Inside
I Love My Online Friends Monday Blog Hop!

My sister-in-law is co-hosting (with The Things We Find Inside) and she has mentioned blog-hopping to me in the past, so I thought today was a perfect day to participate! Thanks Heather!

If this is your first time visiting my site, I'll give a brief history... it started out as a tool to keep our family and friends posted on the progress of our home renovation, and lately with projects slowing down around the house, it has become a diary of sorts for other things going on in our lives, like vacations, outings around our beautiful town of Charleston, and just all-around random things that come up here and there.

I hope you enjoy your time here, and I look forward to looking through your blog as well!

Thanks and Happy Hopping!

Photo-A-Day participa[tion] - Day 19

[something you hate to do]

February 19, 2012

But I do it because I love my cats. And I like for my house to smell nice. I thought I'd spare you the dirty litter box, and photograph it once it was clean. I never realized that their rug is the same color as the litter, hope that doesn't cause them much confusion! So far, so good I guess.

Photo-A-Day participa[tion] - Day 18

[drink]

February 18, 2012
It just so happened that we were the host of our dinner club this month, and of course we went with a Mardi Gras theme. The fun part is that it coincided with the February Photo Challenge "drink" day, so I had to snap a photo of these hurricanes we made! Unfortunately I don't own hurricane glasses, so the purple-toned fleur de lis ones had to do. Yummy!

We also had Pim's Cups and most everyone brought their own beer or wine...

And for dinner, there was gumbo with sausage and shrimp that had been stewing all day....

It was de-licious, served over rice. There were also appetizers, like sauteed mushrooms & onions with french bread slices, chilled homemade crab dip with mardi gras themed tortilla chips (purple, green & gold), French cheese with crackers, and pralined pecans.

For desert, of course we had King Cake! My friend Rebecca (who's actually down in New Orleans for Mardi Gras right now), makes King Cakes every year to raise money for mission trips. They are so good!

And you know, as cheesy as I am, I had to decorate!

For the wreath, I just used my same twig wreath from Halloween, and bought a cheap boa from Party City to wrap around it, draped some beads on the wreath and the porch light, and there you have it!

There are beads draped on lots of random things, and I also bought the festive garland from Party City.

The two masks above were purchased in New Orleans the last time that Brian and I were there. And since we have a stockpile of New Orleans prints and the fact that we have picture rails that allow us to move art around without holes in the walls, we decided to enhance the theme even more!

And the most unique decoration, had to be the umbrella lamp shade! I couldn't resist!

Photo-A-Day participa[tion] - Day 17

[time]

February 17, 2012

And in this case, it's almost 'carnival time'! I know, Fat Tuesday isn't for a few more days, but the parades are in full force, and it's that time of year where we bring out the masks & beads, eat gumbo, drink hurricanes, listen to jazz, and my personal favorite... indulge in King Cake! Thanks to the maker of that cake, Rebecca! And thanks to my parents for infusing the spirit of New Orleans into my soul! And a definite thanks to the love of my life for sharing that same passion for the Crescent City.

Feb PC participa[tion] Day 16 + bedroom art

[something new]

February 16, 2012

This was the pièce de résistance of the 14 surcee, although I may have given it to him for myself, as much for him! Ha! This isn't it's final resting place, we just haven't decided where to hang it (in the bedroom) yet. I was attracted to the tree to go with the theme we've got going in our bedroom these days...

And the red seemed the right fit, since it's slowly becoming the subtle accent color in the room. I have to thank Amanda over at Our Humble A{bowe}d for her recent give-away of free printables. This was one of several prints that she had on her website before Valentine's, and although there was another cool one that I loved that was personalized with initials, I didn't have time to order it in time!

The funny thing is that the other art in the room, was also inspired by Amanda, since she had ordered similar paintings for her bedroom. I couldn't resist and ordered our states as well! Remember these guys...

And to tie it all back together, all three prints are framed in white frames from Target. $15 + free art (this time) =  happy me! And if you're curious about the cheesy tag that this particular surcee came with... "I louvre you".

Valentine & Photo Challenge participa[tion] - Day 14

[heart]

February 14, 2012
Again with the photos on my phone + at work. Boo. But I couldn't resist photographing this cookie for the "heart" photo. Lots o' sugar today, my friends!

I also wanted to share how I treated my Valentine this year, since he spoiled me yesterday with flowers and then dinner. I decided to do 14 surcee (is the plural of surcee, surcee?) throughout the day, so every hour on the :14 minute, I left him a note on silly little gifts. At 8:14, as we left the house, he reached for his daily breakfast of banana, which had a little note tied to it that said "you a-'peel' to me". And yes, it got even cheesier from there! Here are a few of the other little gifts he received...

Maybe we'll share a few more examples tomorrow! I'm not sure I'd recommend this, or do it again myself, as I think that he may have gotten a little annoyed seeing me at his desk hour after hour! I hope you and yours have a wonderful Valentine's Day!
