Week 3

We had an amazing Thanksgiving dinner, courtesy of Onnie,
and we were all thankful for many things this year... health, happiness, and
especially you.

Your cousin Ellie couldn't get enough of you.
She loves to hold you.

Your dad and I had our first outing to pick out a Christmas tree.
You stayed home with Onnie and Papa.
Thankfully, mom encouraged me to decorate with her help!

You love looking at the lights on the tree.

The night sweats seem to have stopped,
which hopefully means my hormones are balancing out!
Maybe I'll be less emotional soon, as well!

Your dad went back to work this week.
Our first few days alone have gone well.
Not sure what I was scared of...
except for the fact that every little thing you do
scares me to death!

A few other milestones for me this week...
I fit into my pre-pregnancy jeans!
And I squeezed my wedding band back onto my swollen finger,
may not have been the smartest move (since it won't ever come off again),
but your dad noticed right when he walked in the door!

Otherwise, you sleep most of the day,
taking up residence in your vibrating bouncy seat.
But when you are awake, you enjoy your play mat,
going for walks in your stroller, and especially eating!

We've managed to go out to several restaurants now,
and you sleep patiently in your car seat.

Today was our first outing in the car (just the two of us)
to meet your dad for lunch.

Week 2

I know we have every reason in the world to be happy,
but this week started off sad.
First with my mom leaving town.

But then I didn't realize it could get even worse,
when our cat Theo died Friday morning.
He had been at the veterinarian's office most of the week
with an issue with his liver.
Your dad is taking it hard,
and has buried him in the backyard.

I want the world for you,
and I don't want anything to ever happen to you.
Stay safe sweet girl.

I miss my family. It's times like these that I wish I lived closer.
I want my mom.

Aunt KK, and Rosalyn, Nell, and Fieldon came to visit!
They were so excited to meet you, and everyone took turns holding you.

Kathryn took good care of all of us,
cooking delicious food for all!

Your granddaddy came to visit,
since he is leaving for China in a few days.
He'll be gone for 10 days, and wanted to see you before he left.
Also, his friend Nancy made you the cutest sweater, hat, and booties.
It may be a while before you can wear them, but they are super precious!

Fortunately, Thanksgiving is also this week,
and more family is coming back to town.

A big milestone this week was that your cord fell off,
and you got to take your first bath with Onnie, Aunt Allie, and Ellie's help!

Week 1

There were lots of family around the first week,
and Onnie stayed the whole time.
Having my mom around meant the world,
and I was so sad to see her go.

She was there in the delivery room,
and by my side your first 8 days.
Didn't know how your dad and I would do it on our own!

I am emotional.
I try to take a salt bath once a day.
Only sponge baths for you though,
still waiting for your cord to fall off!

You had your first doctor's appointment
and everything was great!

You are super strong,
and you seem to have the hiccups a LOT.
You sneeze, you grunt.
And I freak out at every little thing.

We sang Happy Birthday to you on your 1-week birthday.
We celebrate your awesomeness a lot!

You are a great baby,
and we are actually very lucky to be getting the rest that we are
(my sister reminds me of that daily :)

Thank you, sweet baby

The first night...

Little Miss Matilda
was born on November 7, 2012
weighing 7 pounds 15 ounces
and a long little girl at 21-3/4 inches

I couldn't wait to meet you.
On election night, I watched President Obama give his acceptance speech,
and then I labored most of the night with contractions every 7 minutes or so.
It wasn't until they were approximately 4 to 5 minutes apart that I woke up your dad.

It was supposed to be my first day of maternity leave,
I had planned to go out to lunch and have a mani/pedi,
but I'd much rather have you in my arms.

As we rushed to the hospital on that Wednesday morning,
I called your Onnie and Aunt Allie to get on the road,
since they had a 3-hour trip ahead of them.

We waited for confirmation from the hospital staff
that we were truly in labor before calling everyone else!
We were.
And so everyone else got on the road too,
including your Ronnie & Papa from Georgia,
and your Granddaddy, and Great-grandmama from Santee.
Papa Gene and Uncle Brad and Cousin Ellie made it in time as well.

As everyone waited in the waiting room,
and time was slipping away,
your Granddaddy was nervous that you wouldn't make it before midnight!
November 7th is his birthday as well,
and he really wanted to share his big day with YOU!

We had a lot longer than we thought we did to greet your arrival.
Even though we checked into the hospital at 6 am,
you didn't make your debut until 10:11pm!

Your short umbilical cord was keeping you from dropping,
but we didn't know what the problem was until after you arrived.
A C-section would have been safer for that torn cord of yours,
but we didn't know at the time.

I was happy to experience natural childbirth,
and although the pushing wore me out, it was so worth the effort!
I was even caught napping (snoring) between pushes,
it was a long, long day.

So happy you were safe, healthy, happy,
perfect.

I loved seeing your face for the first time.
You were beyond my wildest dreams.
You took to breastfeeding right away,
and all I could do was stare at you.

I love you.

Happy birthday to you (and my dad)!

Just a friendly reminder to GET OUT THERE AND VOTE!

I'm loving all the illustrations that were submitted on govote.org. Check them out! The one above is from artist Tyson Foersterling... and of course I'm digging the bicycle!

39 weeks

Big news! We found out Friday that my blood pressure and protein are elevated again, and my doctor would like to go ahead and deliver sooner, rather than later! She is on-call this coming Friday, so is putting me on the schedule to be admitted to the hospital on Thursday night!

That means the countdown is on at 5 days! Of course, that's if nothing happens before then! I do have one more Non-Stress Test on Tuesday, but otherwise we are on for Friday!

I tell you this because I believe the "nesting" has kicked in this weekend. Once we started thinking of all the company we'll have coming into town and to our house, we started getting busy doing things around the house. The fridge has been stocked, the carpets and mattresses have been steam-cleaned, and we made a trip to Goodwill to donate bags of stuff! And that was just yesterday! Today, I planted the flower boxes out front, vacuumed the curtains, did laundry (yet again), and Brian has completely removed the guest bedroom door to sand/scrape it down and remove/repair the hardware in hopes of getting the door to close properly.

There are still things that need to get done this week, but for the most part, we got a good bit done!

Unfortunately, Brian decided to wait until I was in my pajamas to take my photo, but at least it's documentation of 39 weeks....

Mostly at this point, I'm feeling tired and swollen, and it shows! I'm very excited for the week ahead though!  Can't believe she's almost here!!
