Week 7

This week was filled with holiday cheer...
not much more to report than that!

You have been slightly more fussy,
but I think that's due to all the traveling you've been doing!

We celebrated with the extended Nuzum family...

You hung out while toys were assembled...

You laughed with Onnie...

We dressed you in a stocking...

And then took lots of family photos in our matching pajamas!

Christmas morning, Ellie enjoyed all that Santa brought her....

And you just enjoyed the morning....

Then it was time to head to Santee,
to spend time with the Hurst family...

Merry Christmas!

Week 6

We had you on a pretty good schedule,
but your feeding and sleeping seem to be all over the place now,
just in time for visiting family!

You have started smiling, truly smiling.
And when your dad laughs,
you respond with a little chuckle as well!
(this is hard to document though because you move so quick!)

Road trip!
Your first one...
we went to Georgia to celebrate Christmas a little early
with your dad's side of the family.

While we were there, we also went
to your cousin Fieldon's basketball game!

I had my first doctor's appointment since your birth, and all is well.
My blood pressure is back to normal, as is my weight!

We are excited for the week to come...
Merry Christmas everyone!

Week 5

You are a feisty little thing...
and you are definitely more vocal.
You make lots of noises these days,
cooing, ahh-ing, and mimicking our sounds.

I also caught you sucking your thumb!

We've been doing a lot of Christmas shopping,
from West Ashley to Mount Pleasant to King Street,
and you even had your first meeting with Santa Claus!
(picture to come closer to Christmas!)

Your Granddaddy and Great Grandmama
came to visit for the afternoon yesterday,
and they came bearing gifts from China...
(Granddaddy had a great time in Beijing, Xian, and Shanghai)

Your daddy and I have been married for 3 years today!
Happy Anniversary to my amazing husband!

(Mommy's eating sushi tonight for the first time in about 10 months!)

inven[tion]

UPDATE! The whole reason that I thought this post up was for one helpful gadget in particular, and then I left it out! So I'm adding a sixth product to this post!

The main "invention" that has been a lifesaver during this little girl's life is the POCKET NANNY! The Pocket Nanny, by itzbeen is one of the coolest, most helpful baby products I was given. It's a simple thing really, basically just a timer. It easily keeps track of the last time her diaper was changed, the last time she ate, how long she's been sleeping, and then a miscellaneous button that I've used for tracking Gripe Water, or pumping, or the last Coke or glass of wine I've had. Not only that, it has a nightlight or it's backlit for convenience. This may seem unnecessary, but when sleep deprived, and fearful of forgetting something, this little handheld device is more precious than your cell phone!

Since we passed the 1-month mark, I thought it would be fun to document some of my favorite items that helped us survive. So here's a round-up of my 5 favorite products...

The best blankets for swaddling (or not), the Aden + Anais Muslin Swaddling Blankets. We have the "for the birds" set, and I love them! They aren't only beautiful, but the weight of them is perfect because they are light, and just the right size.

The MAM pacifiers were given to us by two of my "mom" friends who said they were the only pacifiers their children would take, and this is true for us as well. I debated the pacifier, and whether to give it to my breastfeeding baby, and was it too soon, and all those questions. Forget it. This was a lifesaver. She loves to eat, and she loves her pacifier. She definitely does not confuse the two!

These next two are both Fisher Price Snug-A-Bunny... one is the bouncy seat, which vibrates and plays music and nature sounds. This is where she spends her waking hours when I need to put her down.

The second is the Rock N' Play, which is where she sleeps at night, beside the bed. I like that it is on an incline, and rocks, and is convenient to the height of the bed!

I've already mentioned this in a previous post, but the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature bottle is the only one that works for us, so far. So for that, I am grateful!

These are the top 5, but there are many other things that get us through our day! The changing table, the car seat, the stroller, the diaper bag, washcloths, clothes, burp clothes, breast pump, Aveeno baby products, Pampers, baby wipes, etc!

Week 4/Month 1

Happy 1-month birthday!

We've definitely become more mobile over the past week!
You've been to your daddy's office to meet all of his co-workers,
as well as my office to meet all of mine!

We've run lots of errands,
visiting CVS, Target, and even the bank
to get a cashier's check for your birth certificate!

Your social security card came this week as well.

We also went out to lunch
and had dinner at a friend's house,
and you slept during every outing!

When you are on your changing table,
you love staring at photos of your cousins.
It truly calms you down, and you could stare forever!

One major development is that you have what we call
a "meltdown" every night, right around 7pm.
You are truly inconsolable.
And it breaks my heart that I can't make you happy.

Apparently your tear ducts are forming this week
because your eyes got very watery and crusty.

On Sunday, we went to brunch at Early Bird Cafe,
and then went to the Charleston Christmas Parade!

You had your one-month check-up,
and you now weigh 9 pounds 4 ounces!
This puts you in the 50th percentile for weight.

You haven't taken a bottle... until now!
This is huge, since now your dad can feed you!

We had tried several different kinds, and it wasn't until I found the
Tommee Tippee "Closer to Nature"
that you actually drank from a bottle!

Your new stocking came today, so you are ready for Christmas!

And just to show how much you've grown....

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
