Photo-A-Day participa[tion] - Day 7

[favourite] - January Day 7

March 7, 2012
I had to go to Mount Pleasant this morning for blood work, and because it was so early (and I was headed away from downtown) I seemed to have had the whole bridge to myself. I don't usually take pictures while driving, but I couldn't resist the gorgeousness of the clouds and the sun with the bridge and the open road. I was driving slow and steady! I interpreted [favourite] as... this will be my [favorite] photo that I take today, or this will be my most [favorite] memory of this day, or this may be in my [favorite] city... the reasons are endless. I will say that it is typically not my [favorite] time of day, as I am usually just getting out of bed! UPDATE: We got an unexpected call around 5:15pm from a friend with 2 extra tickets for Elton John, who is playing tonight! So that may be the new favorite memory of the day!

[something you wore] - March Day 7

March 7, 2012

Didn't we just do this? Oh yeah, that was for January, but in my world it was just 2 days ago! It seems to be getting colder, so the coat has gotten a little heavier!

Ellie's 3rd birthday celebra[tion]

Like most 3-year-olds, my niece Ellie loves princesses! So for her birthday, she had a Princess Party. I can't remember if my sister asked if I would make the invitations or if I offered (thereby guilting her into letting me), but either way I made them. I emailed Allison the first draft, and she was sold on it, so it really wasn't much effort! She's easy to please I guess!

And I was quite happy with the results, especially since I was able to buy 5x7 scalloped edge cards at Staples, to fancy them up a bit! Along with coordinating pink envelopes.

Then after my step-niece Abby's party favors were such a hit, I decided to make similar ones for Ellie's birthday, of course with the Princess theme! You may recall that I ordered the Sweet Treat cups and oversized hole punch from Stampin' Up, and then bought M&M's in coordinating colors to use as the treat. I started by deciding on a theme, and the first thing 'round' that came to mind when thinking of a princess was the carriage. From there, I set to finding clip art type images online, and then pieced it altogether, adding the simple background in photoshop. It's really just a matter of getting whatever image you are going for to the right size for the hole punch, which in this case is 1-3/4".

As for the M&M's, since it was not long after Valentine's Day, I was able to find pink & red M&M's, however when I needed a second bag they were all sold out, so Easter pastels had to do! I didn't take as many photos this time, but you may remember that the Sweet Treat cups have a sticky rim around the edge, so that once you fill them, you just stick them to your cardstock, and fold to align with the hole (I typically score my cut, to get a cleaner edge). The photo below is from Abby's birthday (hence the bright colors), but you can see the cups before the sticky edge was revealed.

For Ellie, I again separated them out by color, since it just seems to give the feeling of a solid colored carriage. Totally worth it. Here they are displayed at the party...

One last thing that I did for the party, which I was quite excited about was the wrapping for Ellie's gifts. I had 2 good sized boxes of princess presents, and wanted to do something special, so I decided to create a castle! I couldn't find any solid colored wrapping paper, so I actually bought two plastic table cloths from Dollar General for $1 a piece (ended up only needing one, but because I couldn't decide on color, I bought pink & yellow)! I ended up wrapping the box lids with yellow plastic, and then used toilet paper & paper towel rolls for the "towers" wrapped in white cardstock, the pitched roofs were just cut-down paper rolls as well, with pink plastic wrapping. I then took toothpicks and made three little flags with her birthday greeting. It was simple, but unique!

A fun time was had by all! Here are a few other things from the party that reiterated the theme...

The princess cake (which was quite entertaining when she emerged from the cake before the cutting), and also delicious strawberry cupcakes that my mom made.

Wands which were also party favors for all the princesses...

Balloons - pink, purple, and princess...

And last, but certainly not least,  duh, duh, dunnn.... the JUMP CASTLE! Which had to be moved into the garage due to wind & rain. Although I don't think the kids cared much, since they all seemed to LOVE it.

And I'll leave you with a few more photos from the party...

One king showed up, among all the princesses!
Snow White Ellie with her Baby Snow White that I gave her
Now I just need to design the thank you notes for all those gifts!

HAPPY 3rd BIRTHDAY, SWEET ELLIE!!!

[makes you smile] - January Day 6

Rudy & Theo, at rest. Ha!

[5pm] - March Day 6

March 6, 2012

We'll do 6:35pm instead, since that's when I actually left work, and remembered that I was supposed to take a photo at 5pm! This is in the parking lot at my office, and it reminded us of the SC state flag, except that the moon was almost full, instead of a crescent.

[something you wore] - January Day 5

March 5, 2012

The weather around here is out of control. One day it's almost 80 degrees, and another it's barely 50. Just give me some consistency please! All of this to say, that I wore this jacket today. And good thing it's light because it was 68 and sunny today!

[a smile] - March Day 5

INSERT SMILE PHOTO HERE

I promise to get some smiles on film before the end of the week! Lots of smiling going on around here, in this week of birthdays! As I mentioned Ellie's birthday is this week (Wednesday), and Brian's is Thursday, and his sister Kathryn's (40th) is Friday! So there's lots o' celebrating!!

Photo-A-Day participa[tion] - Day 4

[letterbox] - January Day 4

March 4, 2012

I actually had to google this, only to find out that it is exactly what it says it is, we just say it differently... a mailbox. We bought this one at Lowe's a while back, since we thought it was one of the few tolerable ones that they sold, and it seemed to match the character of the house. I love that in our neighborhood no one has mailboxes on the street. Our mail'lady' actually walks down the street, and up onto the porch of each house to deliver the mail.

[bedside] - March Day 4

March 4, 2012

This was not purchased as a bedside table per se, but when we only got one of the matching bedside tables to go with our bedroom suite, I got the short end of the stick! Actually there was more room on Brian's side of the bed, so it worked out that it went to his side. We had this little table in the attic, so I drug it down and spruced it up, and now it serves as my nightstand. I've found that I don't really miss having a drawer, since I've got this little basket on top to hold all my nightly needs, like tissue, phone charger, vitamins, etc. and the shelves are perfect for stacking books or magazines. It's a little short, but works just fine for the time being.

Photo-A-Day participa[tion] - Day 3

[something you adore] - January Day 3

March 3, 2012

So, this is a given. My niece (and my sister) is (are) my life. I love her (them). She is turning 3 in a few days and for her birthday she had a Princess Party that we attended in the Upstate. There will be more on this in the coming week, but I thought I'd share this one photo, since it was actually taken on Saturday!

[your neighborhood] - March Day 3

March 3, 2012

As I mentioned before, we were out of town on Saturday, so I've since taken this photo of my lovely little neighborhood. Turns out that our neighborhood was where the Jewish settled in town, back in the early 1900's. Our house was built in 1935 according to the tax maps, but it's been said that the tax maps may have been created then, so most houses in town were considered 'built' in that year, including Brian's old Freedman's Cottage, which was clearly older than the house we are currently in!

Photo-A-Day participa[tion] - Day 2

So, I'm doing January and March in tandem, and today is [breakfast] and [fruit], and those were actually one in the same, so here you go...

And I found a new interpretation for [up]... seems our little Rudy has found a new place to hang out. I have no idea how she got up there, Brian swears he had nothing to do with it!

Photo-A-Day participa[tion] - Day 1

[you]

So [you] is the subject for January, since (as mentioned in the previous post) I'll be back-tracking to January in addition to my March photos, since I started this whole challenge a month late! So you'll get two photos for the price of one.

Not sure if it's obvious or not, but I'm not really a fan of photos of myself, so I decided to have this as my [you] photo. I also liked that the mirror gave it a fish-eye effect! And you can see that I actually do use our 'real' camera!

[up]

Since I'm notorious for taking photos a. with my phone and b. at work, I thought it was appropriate to start March's photo with just that. So this is looking [up] in the stairwell at work.

duplica[tion]

I hope you aren't tired of the Photo-A-Day Challenge because it's about to get worse. So get used to it! I will try from now on, to not make it a crutch or substitute for blog writing, but I am happy that it's gotten me in the habit of at least posting on a daily basis. I'll try to throw in relevant stories more often. Since I really love that the photos seem to tie in to some other aspect of life that is happening.

Anywho, the reason I say worse, is that I started this little challenge a month late. And since I loved February so much, I'd like to catch up on what I missed in January, so that at the end of all of this, I really will have 365 days of photos, er wait a minute... 366 days (it's a leap year!). Therefore, for the month of March, which happens to have 31 days, I will be taking 2 photos-a-day to make up for the 31 days I missed in January. So, you'll get 2 for the price of 1...

So, later today, I'll be posting "you" and "up", stay tuned!
