Week 38

Well, dear girl,
you have been out of the womb
for as long as you were in it!

And to celebrate, we've gotten a case of thrush! Yuck!
The pediatrician thinks it's from an antibiotic
you were on a couple of weeks ago.

It really hasn't been so bad,
except for rearranging our schedules,
since you couldn't go to daycare for 24 hours.

The fortunate part is that you LOVE the medicine.
Strange, but true!

You've started a couple of new tricks,
you are rolling a ball back and forth with me,
as well as your toy car!

AND, you are SO close to crawling!
Won't be long now!

We traded our typical evening walk around the neighborhood for a walk along the battery,
we felt like tourists in our own town, and even ran into the Mayor!

On another evening walk (in our neighborhood this time),
we tried out the swings at Corinne Jones Park!

In other news,
look how much you've grown!

Week 37

Surprise, surprise, I started the week off with a new haircut!

Then it was time for a roadtrip to Asheville
for Matthew & Sarah's wedding weekend!

The Rehearsal Dinner was so much fun,
surrounded by family!

Here's the groom with all the cousin's in attendance...

A few more shots...

I  love this one of my Aunt Carol and my mom...

And my sister and I with Matthew...

We spent Saturday morning at Biltmore Estate
thanks to Matthew's annual pass.
As you can see, it was a thrilling experience for you dear Matilda!

Afterwards we went swimming at the hotel.
Your first time in a big pool!

And this is you,
about 30 minutes before the wedding...

As for the wedding, it was great!
Such a happy occasion, with great friends and family
sharing in the love of these two special people!

Unfortunately I don't have any photos,
except for these...

There are plenty more, but I'll spare you!

Sunday, there was a small Baby Shower for Aunt Allison...

It was such a fun weekend!

We are experiencing a new phase with you,
it seems you don't like your carseat anymore.
You have started pitching fits as soon as we set you down in it.
Sometimes you cry for a while after, but most times you settle in quickly.

Week 36

Not much to report this week,
honestly I've been a little behind in the posts.

I do love this photo though.
More so, I love the moment...
your daddy reading you a bedtime story,
oh so sweet.

We went to see The Flaming Lips and The Black Keys
with Uncle Brad & Aunt Allison.
You and Ellie stayed with Onnie & Papa!

It was a fun night, and even included a late night stop at the Waffle House!
We spent the rest of the weekend just hanging out in Spartanburg.
We went shopping, and had dinner with the Clementson's...

Favorite photos of the week
are of you swinging on Sunday!

Week 35

Your first 4th of July was spent at
our Canadian friend's house eating paella!
Strange, but true.

You were of course, dressed for the occasion...

In other exciting news, we bought a (new-to-us) car!
The Explorer Sport that I bought back in 2003 finally bit the dust.
Actually it blew a head gasket.
After much searching, we decided to get another SUV for the family!
After test-driving several cars, we settled on the Honda Pilot!

We also sold the Explorer.
The buyer is a 16-year-old who was buying his first car.
He's going to spend the summer working on the engine.
It was so cute, his mom came with him and brought the video camera.
Her oldest child (of five), and a proud moment for her!

I am already freaking out about you driving away
in a car by yourself for the first time!

Milestone of the week:
You love playing peek-a-boo!
When you get out of the tub,
and you are laying there while I dry you off,
you'll pull the towel over your face.
And I'll say "Where's Matilda? Where's the baby?"
And then you pull the towel down to reveal your face.
It is SO cute.

Month 8

Happy 8-month birthday!

At 8 months old, you love sitting and playing.
You haven't started crawling yet, but you are starting to reach more and more,
so I think you'll be moving before too long!

It's been a little too humid and rainy in the evenings,
for walks around the neighborhood,
so our nightly routine has changed ever so slightly,
with walks happening less and less.

Once we are home,
you get a serving of veggies followed by fruit,
then it's bath time,
we read a book or two,
you nurse,
and then gradually fall asleep.

Some nights we can just lay you down in the crib,
and you'll soothe yourself to sleep with your puppy Violet.
But usually we still take turns walking you around the house
in a swaying motion, lulling you to sleep.
As soon as you hit the crib though, you immediately flip to your side.
And before the night's over, you are sleeping on your stomach.
It worried me at first, like any new experience,
but I trust that if you can get there on your own,
then you can get out of it on your own as well!

Food: You nurse first thing in the morning
then a bottle of breastmilk + 2 formula bottles (6 oz ea) at daycare...
as well as a meal of fruit,
and then one meal in the evenings, usually veggies followed by fruit.
You have started eating more pureed meat and pastas as well... turkey and chicken.
And you've tried yogurt, but didn't really care for it.
I just gave you Mum Mums for the first time,
and you devoured it. I worried all night about you.
You were fine. Growing up, I guess!

Sleep: You are sleeping through the night... typically from 8:30pm to 6:30am (thank you).
The pacifier still occasionally falls out, but it's not as bothersome as it once was.

Clothing size: You are wearing 9-month clothes,
as well as 6-12 month clothes (Old Navy).
You could probably stand to move up to 12-month soon.

Toys: This section really hasn't changed...
The farm animals, plastic keys, Sophie the Giraffe, and Your Pal Violet are all faves,
but you do love the nesting stacking bowls, as well as the Baby Einstein caterpillar balls.

Thanks Adam & Amanda!

Baby Einstein comes through for us quite a bit,
with the exersaucer and dvds, and other toys.

New tricks include:
this funny arm-rolling thing,
stretching/reaching to grab any and every thing,
and lots of squealing.

Book of the Month:  Your latest book club book is Good Night, Gorilla

Week 34

So by the second half of our beach trip,
you had a new prescription... Augmentin.
At first I thought you were having a bad reaction to the Amoxicillan,
but as it turns out, it just wasn't working.
So this other medicine is just a double-dose, and it knocked it out!

Once you were feeling better, we were able to get back out to the beach!

We also enjoyed the concert series that's held every Friday night.
We go every year, and it's always a good time!
Dancing, dancing, and more dancing.

Of course Saturday morning is always sad, packing up.
But we always round out the trip with breakfast at Big Nell's.
It's our farewell meal before hitting the road.

I must say that after our first vacation with a (sick) baby,
it was almost a relief to be home again.
Although, I'm always in a funk for a few days after leaving my family.

We were able to take you to the pediatrician on Sunday morning,
just as a follow-up to check your ears.
Everything seemed to be healing just fine!
Matilda Ray with the Manta Ray...

Love that our pediatrician's office is open on the weekends!

Unfortunately on Monday, it was back to work/daycare...
all the teachers said how much they missed you!

In other news, it seems that all that reading to you before bedtime has finally paid off.
You are able to decipher what you'd like for dinner now when going out to eat...
